Washington DC Travel Tips: 10 Things to Know Before You Go to DC

Things you NEED to know BEFORE you go to Washington DC. DC is often referred to as “The District.” You could easily spend a week in DC, especially if you want to see George Washington’s house in Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson’s house in Monticello. The City is laid out in a grid pattern with lettered streets running east-west, numbered streets running north-south. Diagonal streets — usually named after states — often intersect at circles (30 circles)
Dupont Circle is my favorite circle. Comprised of four quadrants (NE, NW, SE, and SW), which spread out from the U.S. Capitol.

Getting in
There are three Airports — none of them actually in DC
Reagan (DCA) — right next to DC — connected by Metro or $20 Cab Ride
Washington Dulles (IAD)
Baltimore-Washington (BWI)
Amtrak to Union Station
Or Drive

Transportation in DC
Walk
One of the 10 of the most walkable cities in the USA
Travel + Leisure rated D.C. as the third rudest city in America,
Metro
Smart Trip Card

Capital Bike Share
175 stations across the city
Sign up for a day, or three
Taxis/Uber plentiful
Driving: Beware — traffic is miserable and oneway streets abound
Parking is expensive — Use parking panda

Museums
Smithsonians are free
Most on the national mall
Air and Space has 2 locations — one by Dulles
Newseum and Spy Museum are expensive
My favorite is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing
No reservations required September 5, 2017 through March 2, 2018
Washington Monument elevator is really cool — but it’s often broken
Best gift shops are in the museums

Government Stuff
Capitol Building or the White House, make sure to book your tickets in advance.
Capitol tour, reservations online or through your Congressional representative or senator.
Capitol Visitor Center provides a limited number of day-passes starting at 9 a.m.
White House, reserve a few months before your trip. Thru congressional representative.

Time to visit
Cherry Blossom Season
Not the summer when all the school kids are there
And the Summer is oppressively hot and humid, especially in August
And maybe not when the govt is in full swing
I like Winter — no crowds at all

Hotels
Can be really expensive, as can parking
My favorites are the Park Hyatt and the Mayflower
Stay outside of DC in Arlington or Alexandria for cheaper hotels
Just a short metro ride in to the city

Food
The national mall and monument area has almost no food
Union Station and Le’fant plaza good for lunch, or around the white house
Avoid the Chinese food in Chinatown — it’s all really awful
But George Bush’s favorite Chinese restaurant is just 20 minutes driving outside of DC
Peking Gourmet Inn in Fall Church — Awesome Peking Duck
My Favorites: Potbelly
My Favorites: Moby Dick House of Kabob
My Favorites: Ben’s Chili Bowl

DC is more than just monuments and the National Mall
Get out and see the real DC
Georgetown
Penn Quarter
Adams Morgan
Smithsonian Zoo
U Street
Walk the red line

Barcelona, Spain Travel Guide – Must-See Attractions

http://bookinghunter.com
Barcelona is the capital of Catolonia and the second largest city in Spain. Barcelona is today one of the world’s leading tourist, economic, trade fair/exhibitions and cultural-sports centres, and its influence in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of theworld’s major global cities.
The most important places to visit in Barcelona are: La Sagrada Familia (This was the largest project by Antoni Gaudi. The construction of this world famous church began in 1882 and is still ongoing), Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera, it was architected by the great Antoni Gaudi. The unusual rooftop can be seen on many postcards from Barcelona), La Rambla (probably the most famous area of Barcelona and very popular amongst tourists. Don’t forget to appreciate the history while watching street performers), Gothic Quarter (it the center of Barcelona’s Old City. Amidst the buildings from medieval times, you will feel transported back in time), La Boqueria (a colorful market where you will find both locals and visitors. Besides the freshness of produce, presentation is extremely eye catching), Plaza de Espana (it is a grand, massive square in the middle of Barcelona. The square was built back in 1920 for the international exhibition), Parc Guell (Barcelona has many great landmarks designed by the world renowned architect, Antoni Gaudi. One of them is the unique Parc Guell) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Barcelona travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

15 Magical Places in America

The United States of America are home to countless beautiful landscapes and natural wonders so it’s hard and almost unfair to choose only 15 Magical Places. Nevertheless, we decided to put together a completely subjective list of places that left us completely speechless. Life is short, so make sure to include one of this beauties in your next trip.

#5 Northern Lights, Alaska

The best place on Earth to experience the magnificence of the northern lights is definitely Alaska. Head to Fairbanks between late August and April, sit back in a heated “aurorium” cabin or simply walk outside and look up to the sky. Aurora borealis or The Northern Lights are the results of collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun’s atmosphere and gaseous particles from Earth’s atmosphere. They occur 60 miles above the Earth, making a colorful display of brilliant yellow-green and sometimes even red- purple patterns.

#4 The Wave, Arizona

The Wave is a sandstone formation located in Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. In order to maintain the natural integrity only 20 people per day are allowed to visit The Wave. For that, you will need a day-use permit that you have to get up to 4 months in advance in an on- line lottery, or by lottery the day before visiting. There are no marked trails or signs to guide hikers that have to be prepared also for fierce winds, harsh desert conditions and blowing sand. You ask: Is all that hassle worth it? Definitely yes. Here you can create the most wonderful Instagram- worthy photos that need no filter.

#3 Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida

Florida is without a doubt one of the most beautiful US states. Here in the Sunshine State, you have The Dry Tortugas National Park, located only 68 miles west of Key West. You can get there by ferry or seaplane from Key West. The park consists of small archipelago of seven coral islands and Fort Jefferson, a massive yet unfinished fortress made from 16 million bricks. Here you can find abundant sea life, coral reefs, and sunken treasures.

#2 Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

The sacred place for Hawaiians is also the most active volcano on Earth. The Kilauea volcano is sometimes called, “the world’s only drive-in volcano.” It produces 250,000-650,000 cubic yards of lava on daily basis ever since January 3rd, 1983. You can take a hike through volcanic craters and watch blistering lava flows meet the sea.

#1 Maroon Bells, Colorado

Just 10 miles from Aspen, Colorado you have the most photographed mountains in the USA. Unmatched mountain scenery created by two peaks in the Elk Mountains called the Maroon Bells and the reflective lake. It took more than 300 million years of sedimentation and erosion to create the Maroon Valley, a natural wonder that truly encapsulates the beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
