Switzerland is full of beautiful cities! They are urban, vibrant and very happening. Although Switzerland is a small country, the diversity among the cities is very noticeable. The architecture, the art and the culture differ a lot from city to city. You will find the cities of Switzerland by the river, lake or even in the valleys. Each city has its unique appearance as well as its hotspots and attractions of where to go to.
Sion is the capital of the very touristy canton of Valais (Wallis). Interestingly, Sion is only little known but ranks easily among the most beautiful cities of Switzerland. Sion feels like being in Italy but is a French-speaking city. Sion is vibrant, full of street art and also a foodie hub. The most remarkable however are the two castles up on the hills. Lugano is the largest city of Ticino in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Lugano lays by the lake, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and one can feel that Italy is quite near. Lugano charms with its many alleys, culture, lake promenade and its view points. The best view over the surrounding and the city of Lugano you can get at the Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Basel is the hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Basel is an old city and full of culture. It’s important to explore the many alleys with their colorful houses, see the red city hall, the minster and cross the bridges. Basel has a strong connection to its traditions. Important to mention here are the Vogelgryff and the Morgestraich. Bern is the federal city (capital) of Switzerland and the only town that is considered UNESCO world heritage. Very typical for Bern are the many arcades and the fountains. Bern’s old city is really a highlight, thus make sure to spend here at least half a day. Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, a town that feels Mediterranean and sort of French/Italian. The highlight of Neuchâtel are the lake promenade, the graffiti alley and the collegiate church with the castle. Schaffhausen is probably the largest and best preserved old city in Switzerland. Schaffhausen’s old town charms with its colorful houses and oriel windows (balcony windows). Schaffhausen is easy to explore by walk it’s pretty much car-free. The best things to do in and around Schaffhausen are a visit to the Museum zu Allerheiligen, walking at the Vordergasse alley, going up to the Munot and seeing the nearby Rhinefalls. The Munot is a centre for culture and hosts various events. Zurich is the largest city in all of Switzerland. It’s the hub for innovation and business but at the same time is a very touristy destination. Zurich’s old city concentrates around the Limmat quay. Walk along the river Limmat, enter the many protestant churches or head up to the Lindenhof and Polyterrase to enjoy a great vista over the old city of Zurich. Zurich is modern but also very cultural; the major event being the Sechseläuten festival. Fribourg is a city on two levels. The old city of perfectly preserved and thus great to explore. Ascend the church tower of the St. Nicolas cathedral or the Loretta chapel to enjoy a brilliant vista. Fribourg city has also some similarities with Luxemburg. Solothurn is the most beautiful baroque city of Switzerland. The old town is full of beautiful houses and concentrates around the river Aare. The major landmark is the St. Urseren Cathedral that offers you a great view from its tower. Lucerne is no doubt the most beautiful of the Top 10 Swiss Cities. Lucerne has been a favorite for many tourists since it offers so many great things such as a charming river promenade along the Reuss, a great view over Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) and the Swiss Alps and otherwise seems very inviting with its alleys and painted houses. Lucerne’s best attractions are the Jesuitenkirche, Gletschergarten museum and many more. Explore Lucerne on the water by taking a boat ride or head up to Mount Pilatus to get a perfect vista over the Swiss Alps and this old city.

Welcome to our channel.
Switzerland may be small but it has a whole host of great places to visit. From breathtaking mountain peaks to dreamy turquoise lakes and a countryside littered with ancient wonders, Switzerland really does have something for everyone.
This pyramid-shaped giant is one of the world’s most photographed mountains, which means it’s definitely a top place to visit in Switzerland. The mountain is home to the highest cable car station in the Alps, which offers some excellent views of the mountain peak and beyond. It really doesn’t get much more Swiss than a trip to the Matterhorn.
In a country with amazing scenery at every turn, it can be hard to know where to go. But one thing for certain is that you’ll want to visit the Swiss National Par near Zernez. As the country’s only national park, it’ll give you an idea of how the Alps were before tourism
The Jungfraujoch is an Alpine wonderland that fully deserves its nickname of the Top of Europe. Technically a glacier saddle between two mountains, the Jungfraujoch is one the best – and highest – attractions in Switzerland. And don’t let the altitude put you off – there’s plenty for the whole family up there, from mountain climbing to tobogganing and much more.
As Europe’s most powerful waterfall, it’s easy to see why Rhine Falls is one of the top things to do in Switzerland. Visitors can take in the beauty of the waterfall – located near the northern town of Schaffhausen – from several viewing decks. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can even rent a canoe and check out some nearby castles from the water. Every August, the falls host a spectacular firework display that attracts visitors from around the country as part of Switzerland’s National Day celebrations.
Not only is the medieval city of Bern Switzerland’s capital, but it’s also one of its most enchanting places to visit. Walk around the old town’s narrow cobblestone stones and you’ll soon realize just why the neighborhood is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Stretching from Geneva in the west to Lausanne in the east, Lake Geneva is one of Switzerland’s most beautiful places. From the international bustle of Geneva to the many vineyards that crawl up the hillsides around the lake, there’s plenty to do in the surrounding region. And there’s a lot of activity on the lake, too.
no list of the top things to do in Switzerland would be complete without mentioning Zurich. The largest Swiss city, Zurich is also the social and cultural hub of the country. In fact, despite its world-renowned financial offerings, Zurich has a surprisingly bustling social scene. From the popular Pride parade to Europe’s largest street rave, there’s a lot going on. And, if all that wasn’t enough, the city’s pretty easy on the eye – from the charming streets of the old town to the stunning scenery of Lake Zurich.
In a country of picture-perfect lakeside cities, it doesn’t get much more impressive than Lucerne. Surrounded by three large mountains, the compact medieval city sits on the shores of Lake Lucerne. Wandering around the captivating old town, you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped into a painting. There are ancient churches, bustling squares, and plenty of boutiques to explore as you marvel at the architectural wonder of the city. But the highlight is the Chapel Bridge, a covered wooden bridge that has been connecting the center of Lucerne since 1333.
Everyone admires the green Switzerland, but did you know how wonderful it can be during AUTUMN? Autumn is the season of colors! Indian Summer down in the plains and golden Autumn up in the Swiss Alps. The best months to experience the colors of Autumn are October and November. In general, the colors start to show during the 2nd half of October and last for around 3-4 weeks. The Top 10 places to visit in Switzerland during Autumn combine serenity, colors and pristine nature. These can be found in the Jura region, around vignards and in the cantons of Valais, Ticino, Bernese Oberland and Graubünden. Of course, everywhere in Switzerland you can find beautiful spots. Really beautiful is the village of Romainmôtier in the Jura Vaudois with its nearby waterfalls. The Tine de Conflens, Cascade du Dard and Saut du Day are embedded into a beautiful forest, which shows it’s Indian Summer vibes from their best side! Eye-catching are the vignards around Ligerz in der Jura-3-Lakes region. In particular around the pilgrimage church it is very nice to go for a hike and walk among the golden vineyards. Although there will be many sunny days, October and November do not always have good weather. In that case the Grotte de Vallorbe may be a perfect place to visit; great to combine with Romainmôtier on sunny days. The vineyards of the world famous Lavaux are also dreamy to visit. Three major spots to go to would be the villages of Epesses, Saint-Saphorin and Rivaz. They are all serene; Saint-Saphorin has the view, Rivaz the hidden gem sort of feeling. Hike among the vineyards with their beautiful golden leaves and do not forget to enjoy the view over Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), especially during the sunset when the golden leaves will glow in red. This is one of the most beautiful things to experience during Autumn in Switzerland. Definitely, consider visiting lakes: The Lac Bleu in Arolla is very eye-catching. It is surrounded by many golden larches, very similar to the Lake of Palpuogna or the Silsersee in the Engadin region. These lakes are perfect to go for hiking. Lake Sils and Palpuogna can be easily reached by car, the Lac Bleu would have to be reached by hiking. The Lagh da Saoseo (Lake Saoseo) can be reached by hike or by Postauto bus (make mandatory reservations on sbb.ch). Lake Saoseo is surrounded by green spruces and golden larches and perfectly shines with its strong royal blue color. Definitely with the ensemble of colors, this place is probably the most unique to visit during Autumn season. Autumn is though not only about colors, it’s also quite a foggy season, especially during November. You may either enjoy the mystical side of the foggy weather by staying down in the Swiss plateau and walk in the forest full of fog. However, better use this often depressing weather to your advantage and consider going up to the peaks. The Fronalpstock or Aletsch Glacier are two among many spots where you can witness the cloud inversion. Standing above the fog, above a sea of clouds. This is one of the most unique phenomena one could get to see during Autumn. The highest chance for this is usually during November. This Top 10 Autumn in Switzerland list may give you some great idea, but it shall also be kept in mind that there are plenty of other beautiful places, and also cultural events to experience during this season!
