Steeped in history and culture, while confidently embracing the 21st century, India is a country that can be explored for years, and will surprise you at every corner.

I traveled through India on three different trips, and in this video I will share with you my personal top 10 places to visit in this magnificent country. The footage in this mini documentary was mostly shot in 2014, and can function as a travel guide.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:

We begin this journey in Amritsar, and more specifically in the mesmerizing Golden Temple. Located in the spiritual heartland of the Sikh community, this is one of India’s most famous icons. The nearby kitchen is also very interesting to visit, and don’t miss the Wagah border ceremony, where soldiers from both India and Pakistan perform an entertaining border closing show.

Rajasthan is a beautiful province that can be explored for weeks, with stunning hilltop forts and royal palaces, in places like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, and Jaipur. The bazaars and street markets, where many people do their (grocery) shopping, are also a joy to explore. After Rajasthan, we travel to Agra, to visit India’s tourism symbol, the awe-inspiring Taj Mahal.

Mumbai is one of India’s most dynamic and interesting cities. Often considered as the commercial capital of the country, the city bursts with energy and creativity. While there are many impressive buildings to admire (mosques, temples, colonial architecture), it’s the city’s atmosphere that really draws tourists and travelers to Mumbai.

Tamil Nadu is a distinctly different province from many others places in India, and is characterized by charming coastal villages, pilgrimage sites, and beautiful Hindu temples. The South Indian food is also delicious, and shouldn’t be missed. We travel onwards to Kolkata, thought of as a intellectual and cultural powerhouse. It’s a lively city, with stunning architecture, beautiful (flower) markets, and also modern shopping malls. Other places to visit are the British colonial Victoria Memorial, the horse racing tracks, and many parks where people play cricket all day long.

Dharamsala (or McLeod Ganj) is the seat of the Tibetan government in exile, and almost feels like a Little Tibet. This is where the Dalai Lama lives, and many monks and pilgrims regularly visit. Hyderabad, in central India, is an IT hub like Bangalore, and provides a great insight in the country’s growing digital economy.

Delhi is the political capital, and really a destination in itself. It’s a major business and transport hub and attracts people from all over India to work, study, and live. We finish this journey in Odisha province, an often overlooked region that boasts some of India’s most beautiful temple complexes, a welcoming attitude, and a relaxed beach vibe.

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign city-state and island country in maritime Southeast Asia. It lies about one degree of latitude north of the equator, off the southern tip of the Malay peninsula, and, by extension, the southernmost extremity of continental Eurasia.
Singapore Island or Mainland Singapore, also historically known by its indigenous name Pulau Ujong (Malay: literally ‘island at the end’), is the main constituent island of the city-state of Singapore. It is part of the Malay Archipelago and is located at the southern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. The island forms the bulk of the country in terms of area and population since there are hardly any other residential areas situated on the smaller islands.[2] With a population of 5,469,700 and an area of 710 square kilometers, Mainland Singapore is the 20th most populous island in the world and the 31st most densely populated island in the world

A vacation in Singapore is not complete without visiting these places.
Tourism in Singapore is a major industry and contributor to the Singaporean economy, attracting 17.4 million international tourists in 2017, more than 3 times of Singapore’s total population.[1] It is also environmentally friendly, and maintains natural and heritage conservation programs. Along with this, it also has one of the world’s lowest crime rates. As English is the dominant one of its four official languages, it is generally easier for tourists to understand when speaking to the local population of the country, for example, when shopping. Transport in Singapore exhaustively covers most, if not all public venues in Singapore, which increases convenience for tourists.
The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 ranks Singapore 13th out of 136 countries overall, which was the third-best in Asia only behind Japan (ranked 4th) and Hong Kong (ranked 11th).
The Orchard Road district, which is dominated by multi-story shopping centers and hotels, can be considered the center of tourism in Singapore. Other popular tourist attractions include the Singapore Zoo, River Safari, and Night Safari, which allows people to explore Asian, African, and American habitats at night without any visible barriers between guests and the wild animals. The Singapore Zoo has embraced the ‘open zoo’ concept whereby animals are kept in enclosures, separated from visitors by hidden dry or wet moats, instead of caging the animals, while the River Safari, features 10 different ecosystems around the world, including the River Nile, Yangtze River, Mississippi, Amazon as well as the Tundra and has 300 species of animals, including numerous endangered species.[5]

Jurong Bird Park is another zoological garden centered on birds, which is dedicated to exposing the public to as many species and varieties of birds from around the world as possible, including a flock of one thousand flamingos. The tourist island of Sentosa, which attracted 19 million visitors in 2011, is located in the south of Singapore, consists of about 20–30 landmarks, such as Fort Siloso, which was built as a fortress to defend against the Japanese during World War II.

Guns from the World War II-era can be seen at Fort Siloso, from a mini-sized to a 16 pound (7 kg) gun. Moreover, the island has built the Tiger Sky Tower, which allows visitors to view the whole of Sentosa, as well as the Sentosa Luge, a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleigh supine and feet-first. Steering is done by shifting the weight or pulling straps attached to the sled’s runners. Among the latest tourist attractions built in Singapore includes the two integrated resorts which house casinos, namely Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa, a Universal Studios theme park and Gardens by the Bay.
