Top 10 travel destinations in Greece for winter

Greece: top 10 destinations for winter, 10 excursions in beautiful landscapes with amazing nature!
If we chose an image to characterize Greece, then it probably would not be a snowy mountain or a river. We would not show waterfalls or lakes, lit fireplaces and foggy landscape… And yet this is another one of the many faces of Greece!
Litochoro. We are located in Pieria, at the foot of Mount Olympus. Once upon a time here was a sacred place. The place of residence of the Ancient Gods! Litochoro is your beautiful starting point for excursions to the paths of Olympus, the waterfalls and the magical Greek nature! Half an hour south of Litochoro stands Paleos Panteleimonas, one of the best preserved traditional settlements of Greece!
Meteora. A rare geological phenomenon, unique in all of Europe. Huge rocks that host monasteries on top of them. Religious grandeur, awe, panoramic views and strong emotional impact, next to the mountain range of Pindos. Kalampaka and Kastraki villages will make your stay more beautiful.
Kalavrita. A traditional village is even more beautiful when there is a jagged railway that passes through the impressive green gorge of Vouraikos, when nearby there are caves and monasteries and one of the largest ski resorts in Greece. Unique moments in the northern Peloponnese.
Serres. Snowy mountain ranges, lakes that reflect the beauty of nature, hot baths and a lively city with a strong pulse and fantastic delicacies! We are in Serres and it is certain that Kerkini and Lailias will seal your winter getaways!
Naoussa. Macedonian architecture, and a landscape with dense vegetation that turns white in winter! In Naoussa, the whole scene can captivate you in a winter fairy tale. The city, the park of Agios Nikolaos, but mainly the ski resorts of Seli and Tria – Pente Pigadia.
Vitina. In the Heart of the Peloponnese lies Arcadia and in its center Vitina. A beautiful stone-built mountain village next to Mount Mainalo. Virgin forests, hiking trails, famous guesthouses, quality local products and the ski center in close distance from Athens.
Karpenisi. The capital of Evritania is built at an altitude of almost a thousand meters on Mount Timfristos. Alpine environment, and breathtaking landscapes. The settlements of Mikro and Megalo Chorio, Prousos and its monastery, the ski center Velouchi and the gorge Panta Vrechei will write a separate page in the album of your memories.
Metsovo. The most elegant part of Mountainous Epirus! Welcome to Pindos. At an altitude of 1160 meters is a town with stone mansions, splendid churches and lots of snow! A blessed place that highlighted great national benefactors and distinguished Greeks in their kind. Epirus hospitality, incomparable local specialties with the smoked Metsovone cheese standing out.
Arachova. The Snow Queen in Central Greece! The nymph of Parnassos is built on its southern slopes and a breath away from the navel of the world, Delphi. At the so called “Mykonos of Winter” you will find everything, but mainly fun, entertainment, and action on the white snow slopes overlooking the sea!
Old Agios Athanasios. And yet this beautiful traditional settlement of Northern Greece was once ruined and abandoned. On the slopes of Mount Kaimaktsalan and at an altitude of 1200 meters is a place taken from the myths. As if it were the setting of a movie. Here stone and light blend harmoniously and beautify every human activity. The specialties of Pella will drive you crazy while in the nearby ski center you will be able to burn the unnecessary calories.
From north to south and from east to west, Greece does not stop filling our mind and soul with its beauties, pride and grandeur.
And do not forget that by travelling and appreciating, we all become part of Greece!

Top 10 Places to Visit on Java – Indonesia Travel Video (Documentary)

Java is one of Indonesia’s most diverse and beautiful islands. In this travel video, I show you 10 of my favorite places to visit. From surreal mountain landscapes and volcanoes to bustling cities, from tranquil fishing villages to historic temples set among green lush rice fields.

I traveled through Asia for a number of years, and visited Java in 2017. This short travel documentary aims to show you my personal top 10 places on this magnificent island. Thanks for watching, and feel free to leave comments below!

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video (which can be used as a travel guide):

We begin this journey in Jakarta, the nation’s capital, and one of Asia’s largest cities. The city can feel overwhelming at first sight, but there are some great areas to visit, including museums, historic neighborhoods, and modern shopping malls.

After Jakarta, we travel to Yogyakarta, the cultural heartland of Java. It’s a much more relaxed place to walk around, and provides a more traditional perspective of Indonesia, with music performances (gamelan songs) and shadow puppet theatre. I also visit local farmers in the countryside around the city. Most are growing rice in green paddy fields, and are happy to show you around.

Around Yogyakarta you will find two of Indonesia’s most stunning temples. Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, and easily one of the most impressive historic structures in Asia. Prambanan is of Hindu origin, and its architecture is very different from Borobudur.

Mount Bromo is arguably one of Indonesia’s most famous volcanoes, and it’s actually possible to get up on the ridge, to get a peek into its crater. The next destination is Pangandaran, a peaceful seaside town with some beautiful beaches and powerful waves, and a popular holiday destination.

Semarang is a busy city with some beautiful historic architecture, including the church which was built in Dutch colonial times. The Christian minority still uses this church. After Semarang, we travel to Kawah Ijen, a surreal volcanic crater where miners are collecting blocks of sulfur. In some moments, this place felt apocalyptic.

In the fishing port of Banyuwangi (also the gateway to Bali) you will find some spectacular fishing boats, with bright colors and classic design. The town’s atmosphere is friendly, and it’s nice to walk around visiting some of the markets. The region around Banyuwangi is well suited for agriculture, and is used for cacao, rubber, and coffee production.

In the lush green mountains around Wonosobo, you will find some beautiful tea plantations, that are open to visit. We finish the journey in Surabaya, an important business and trading hub in Indonesia. It might not boast a lot of ‘tourist attractions’, but it’s a nice place to visit. The main mosque is a highlight, where the local Muslim population comes to pray. It provides an interesting view into the main religion in Indonesia, Islam. On Fridays, this area turns into an ‘open air restaurant’, with street food sellers offering their finest dishes.

Top 10 Places to Visit in China – Travel Documentary

China is one of the most fascinating travel destinations in the world, and in this video I will share with you my personal top 10 best places to visit.

From the ruins of the Great Wall to vibrant megacities. From surreal mountain landscapes to charming riverside villages. Today’s China is a beautiful, complicated, and captivating place.

I spent more than 18 months in China, spread over the course of a decade and a half. In the last years, I started filming the places that I traveled to, using regular cameras and drones. All footage in this travel documentary is shot by myself between 2010 and 2019.

Here’s a brief overview of the places in this video.

We start this journey in the stunning riverside village of Fenghuang in central China. The wooden stilt houses are a spectacular sight, and the backstreets are still filled with old world charm. We then continue to Harbin, best known for its Winter tourism. Millions of people usually flock here to visit the amazing Ice and Snow Festival, to admire beautiful sculptures and palaces.

Yangshuo is another spot not to miss, mostly for its mesmerizing mountain landscape of limestone peaks. It’s a great place to witness life in the countryside, and has a relaxed vibe. After Yangshuo we travel to Beijing, the nation’s capital city. The impressive Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven Park are two main highlights. And the nearby Great Wall of China is truly a sight to behold.

Zhangjiajie is the next destination on my list, and one of China’s most beautiful national parks. It formed the inspiration for the popular movie Avatar. You can get an aerial perspective from the many walkways, and don’t miss out on the Glass Bridge here, if you dare at least. I continue my journey to Lhasa, the spiritual heartland of Tibet, and a place that left a deep impression on me. Take into a account that foreign travelers can only visit Tibet as part of a group tour.

Shanghai is a unique city with a jaw-dropping modern skyline, but also has some impressive historic architecture. It’s a busy place to visit, but also has many laidback neighborhoods and quiet streets. Yuanyang, on the other hand, is quintessential rural China, with an epic landscape of rice terraces. It’s a good place to meet some of the minorities living in the South of the country, and eat some local food.

I continue my travels in Qingdao, one of China’s most scenic coastal cities, located on the Yellow Sea. Many Chinese tourists come here to enjoy the beach and eat fresh seafood, but I was particularly impressed by the historic German buildings. I finish this journey in Hong Kong, easily one of my favorite cities in the world, and a perfect fusion between East and West.

Top 10 Places to Visit in Shanghai – China Travel Documentary

Shanghai is one of the most fascinating cities in China, and in this video I share my personal top 10 places to visit in this amazing city.

Few cities in the world evoke so much imagination as the largest city in China. Rich and glamorous on one corner, rough around the edges on another, Shanghai is truly one of the most fascinating places in the country. Located in the East of China, Shanghai should be high on any traveler’s list.

The video starts off on the Bund, a spectacular waterfront promenade located right in the center of the city. It provides a stunning contrast between historic colonial architecture and the awe-inspiring modern skyline of Pudong on the other side of the Huangpu river. Here, you can get some of the best views across the city. After Pudong, I take you to Nanjing street for some shopping, followed by a moment of calm in the rebuilt Jing’An Temple.

After walking through the People’s (central) park where I encounter a ‘marriage market’, we search for pockets of old Shanghai. These authentic neighborhoods are fast disappearing, as development of apartment towers and shopping malls takes over.

With enough time, it’s possible to plan a few day trips out of Shanghai. Some of my favorite ones are Suzhou, Zhujiajiao, and the impressive Yangshan Port. Back in the city, we travel to the outskirts to visit a ‘bicycle graveyard’ and visit a few trade shows, interesting places for those interested in doing business in China. The video finishes at the former Expo site, taking you back to one of the largest events ever held in China.

All footage was shot by me through the years using different camera equipment.
