1. Union Square a.k.a. the shopping paradise. This one-block plaza and surrounding area is one of the largest collections of department stores, high-end boutiques, gift shops, beauty salons, theaters, luxurious hotels and art galleries in the United States.

2. Golden Gate Bridge- the iconic symbol of San Francisco is one mile (1.6 km) wide and is made from steel. This engineering wonder connects San Francisco city to Marin County. Every year, the bridge attracts more than 10 million visitors to admire its signature Orange International color.

3. Exploratorium- if you want to learn and have fun, this is the place to come, to. This iconic museum is the best choice if you want to explore the realms of science, art and human perception in a fun and interactive way.

4. Lombard Street- “the crookedest street in the world” is another major attraction of San Francisco. As it’s names says it, this one-way street is famous for its eight steep and sharp turns.

5. Ferry Building Marketplace is the best place to visit if you want to enjoy the local cuisine. Let yourself be charmed by the open-fronted shops filled with delicious artisanal products and the vibrant smells, tastes and colors of these rare tasty finds.

6. Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary was a maximum security federal prison, located Alcatraz Island, 1.25 miles off the coast of San Francisco. This infamous prison housed some of America’s most dangerous criminals during its years of operation (1934 to 1963).

7. Silicon Valley (Googleplex, Facebook Headquarters, Apple’s Infinite Loop) is known as a global center for high technology and innovation. The area houses the world’s largest high-tech corporations including the headquarters of Google, Facebook and Apple.

8. Chinatown of San Francisco is the largest Chinese community outside of Asia and the oldest in North America. This unique neighborhood fascinates with its beautifully decorated shops, historic pagoda roofs and colorful hanging lanterns.

9. Treasure Island was built in 1937 for the Golden Gate International Exposition. But the main reason why this place is worth visiting, is its view. San Francisco’s entire northern waterfront is picture perfect from here.

10. California Academy of Sciences is one of the largest science museums in the world as well as a research institute. This is the perfect place to visit if you want to make friends with penguins, parrots, sharks, butterflies and even a rare albino alligator.
